Agricultural Remedies List

Agricultural remedies registered in South Africa

All agricultural remedies sold and used in South Africa must be registered in accordance with the Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act (Act No. 36 of 1947). An agricultural remedy is defined as any chemical substance or biological remedy, or any mixture or combination of any substance or remedy intended or offered to be used

  • for the destruction, control, repelling, attraction or prevention of any undesired microbe, alga, nematode, fungus, insect, plant, vertebrate, invertebrate, or any product thereof, but excluding any chemical substance, biological remedy or other remedy in so far it is controlled under the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act, 1965 (Act No. 101 of 1965), or the Hazardous Substances Act, 1973 (Act No. 15 of 1973).
  • as plant growth regulator, defoliant, desiccant or legume inoculant. 

After registration, an agricultural remedy is attributed a registration number which starts with an “L” and is followed by four to five numbers depending on when the remedy was registered. Numbers preceded by an “M”, “B”, or “K” are attributed to other remedies regulated under Act No. 36 of 1947, such as foliar feeds and fertilizers.

CropLife SA and Agri-Intel, have compiled a list of agricultural remedies registered in South Africa with “L” registrations. This list was composed based on feedback from CropLife SA member companies (i.e. registration holders) as well as voluntary inclusion from non-member companies.

Where a registration number is indicated on the list with a (D1) or (D2) behind it, please note that these are duplicate L numbers.
